Sophie is a contemporary cold wax artist, who works mainly from her studio on the Kings Road, Chelsea. She has trained with UAL and a number of international experts in cold wax and oils. Sophie captures the atmosphere and dynamics of transient landscapes. Sophie's work is rich in texture and her process involves layering, then excavating manually, as well as chemically, through layers of wax, oils and mixed media. This mirrors the processes of uplift and denudation that shape the landscapes that inspire her. Before specialising in cold wax medium and oils, Sophie worked as a geologist, having studied at the University of Oxford and Imperial College. She has examined geological structures across East Africa, Europe, as well as Russia and her insight into geological phenomena is evident in her work. ' I paint in response to the powerful natural phenomena that dismantle, deform and reform the landscape as we know it '
